Ecomarine
Single-point inflatable offshore boom
The ECOMARINE boom is the most advanced offshore boom systems available today. The boom expands instantly during deployment, due to coils of high-pressure air hoses taking a spiral shape as soon as the boom comes off the reel. As the boom expands, atmospheric air is drawn in through dedicated breather hoses, filling the floats with air. The ECOMARINE boom’s inflation system reduces deployment and recovery times, as well as personnel requirements, to a minimum.
The ECOMARINE boom series has two independent air circuits for redundancy and has bulkheads dividing the continuous float into 5-metre chambers, allowing for a fully operational boom even if one of the circuits should fail. The boom design also features a secondary high-flow back-up air system that is used to top up the boom’s chamber-air if necessary, enabling the boom to be deployed over long periods of time, even in rough conditions.
The fabric used to manufacture the ECOMARINE booms is highly resistant to oil, chemicals, all weather conditions, and UV light. This fabric is both strong and lightweight, giving rise to high quality booms, highly flexible and with excellent wave-following characteristics. All seams and unions are high frequency welded, maintaining the excellent mechanical properties of the membrane.
Deployment, recovery, and storage
ECOMARINE booms are designed to be stored and operated with an ECOREEL with turntable and integrated air delivery system to inflate the boom automatically while being deployed. The spiral hoses are pressurized while the boom is still on the reel and during deployment the spiral hoses expand the float as the boom leaves the reel, making the boom fully operational when it reaches the water. The only operating and storage space required on deck is the ECOREEL’s own footprint.
Remote control operation
The ECOMARINE boom system is best operated using the remote control of the ECOREEL from any position on board the vessel. A single operator can control boom inflation, deployment, and recovery with a full view of all movements.
A major advantage of this system is that it allows the boom to be deployed in rough conditions without the need for crew or other personnel being in direct contact with the equipment.
